Krakow is one of the largest cities in Poland, with a population of nearly 1 million. Situated on the banks of the Vistula river in the Malopolska region, it dates back to the 7th century. It was the capital of Polish Kingdom from 1038 to 1596 and has always been one of the leading centres of Poland’s scientific, cultural and artistic life. With a history encompassing a thousand years, Krakow remains the heart of the country and the centre of local and international tourism. Top visited sites include the Main Market Square with St Mary’s Cathedral and the Sukiennice Cloth Hall, the Royal Wawel Castle and the Zygmunt Bell at the Royal Cathedral, the National Art Museum and the medieval St Florian’s Gate with the Barbican fortifaction along the Royal Coronation Route. Walking along the charming streets of Krakow you will feel the unique ambient and mix of the tradition with modernity.

In 1978 UNESCO added Krakow’s Historic Centre, which includes the Old Town, the Jewish district – Kazimierz and the Royal Wawel Castle, to the first list of World Heritage Sites.
